Picture Easels
“A picture’s worth a thousand words”…how ’bout a poem?
Magnum Opus
Upon a rough hewn Easel
Rests her sprawling world of canvas,
An unconsummated sea of white.
The artist
Works diligently-
Methodically-
With scrutinizing eye
And meticulous hand-
The vision always in sight-
She dabs.
Overcome,
The artist
Works vigorously-
Spasmodically-
Flashes of color
Streak vibrantly
Across space:
Dashes of glittering gold-
Rich burgundy and turquoise pools-
Each pass of the hand
Is meaningful.
Layer-upon-layer,
Flaw-upon-flaw
That cannot be erased-
Only adds to the texture:
Beauty’s impasto.
The pursuit of a masterpiece
Will last a lifetime.

The real meaning of the poem is supposed to be about life…
If I didn’t get that across, then I guess I failed as a poet.
You could never fail as a poet, as far as I am concerned. This poem is multi-layered, like the painting so gracefully described in your work. It can be thought of in term of life in general, or about the pursuit of writing a beautiful poem, or even at face value about painting a masterpiece. This makes it rich and textured and vibrant. The greater theme is about the actualization process of living, a theme relative to every cognizant being. It’s a wonderful “painting”, encapsulation of that process. You have so much talent. Thank you.
