What size Easel do I need to hold a 40 inch high (1016 millimetre) canvas?

I’m not an artist – it is my brother’s wedding on Friday and he has had the ingenious idea of painting a basic seaside backdrop (we live on the coast) and plans to have all of the guests paint their own little boats etc. on it throughout the evening as a keepsake for him and his wife. The problem is he has left finding An Easel go until the last minute so I as best man have been given the task of picking one up but I have no idea about easels or which one would be best suited to hold a canvas of this size.

If the wedding is to be held in your brother’s house then he could perhaps hang the canvas where he intends it’s site and the guests could paint straight onto the canvas on the wall. If it isn’t possible to hang the canvas on the wall it could be lent against a/the wall to be painted on. When I paint large canvasses I generally hang them on the wall to enable me to paint on them, however, I haven’t always bothered to hang them and let them just lean against the wall instead. There are sites on the internet where easels and donkies (a sitting down version) are sold. Have a browse through and see which option is more suitable.
