Have I over done it for my two year old on christmas?

I have a two year old daughter that i spoil rotten….her birthday is dec 21 and we have gotten her like 15 things and for christmas like 20 and not small things either like,we bought a bounce house, elmo live, art Easel, a 140$ kids kitchen from toy’s r us plus all of the accessories (cart, princess table, cups,fake fruit etc. huge stuffed animals, puzzles, shape sorters, smart cycle, bean bag, play house etc. We bought ALOT, but for some reason i still feel like i havent bought enough WHY? I have probably spent close to 600$ on her christmas and birthday and i cant stop we are going to the mall the 23 to finish christmas up…. She is an only child and im not rich i am a server at applebees, and im 19. Why do i feel i have to buy her so much and is it okay?

It is okay.

You cannot spoil a child by giving them too much. That is the lazy parents cop out. You spoil a child by not teaching them to APPRECIATE all they have.

I was an only child, and my parents gave me so much. So so so much.. but they also were firm, and taught me to appreciate every little thing.. that was the best gift they ever gave me. Teaching me how to appreciate life and the little things. So while, in normal parents theory, I was spoiled.. I don’t feel it. I don’t act it. I’d rather give than receive.

Feel free to give her whatever you want to give her for her birthday and Christmas, but always teach her to say thank you for those things. Don’t put the focus on all yoou give her, point out the little things she should appreciate too. Teach her to smile :)

Nothing wrong with what you did. I LOVE ’spoiling’ other people myself. Isn’t it the greatest feeling in the world? I can’t help myself ^^

I am 20 years old, and my mother buys me a TONNE of Christmas and birthday presents to this day.. I don’t expect it. I always tell her she really shouldnt have, and mean it.. But she does. I appreciate it and recognise it.. because despite all the ’stuff’ I got while a child, my parents took the time to bring me up well too.
