Easels for Artists
An easel can be an artist’s best friend.
Today there are many different styles available.
Table Top Easel
As the name suggests, this easel will sit on a table. It is usually a small, folding easel that is suitable for small canvas. A table top easel can be made of wood or metal and is usually compact and easy to store.
Paintbox Easel
A Paintbox easel is often popular with beginners. It will hold a canvas and also has a container box for storage of supplies. It is ideal for outdoor painting but may not be as stable as other easels.
Sketching Easel or Display Easel
These easels are lightweight easels that are often used for displaying finished work. They are available in a variety of sizes so they can accommodate different sized canvases.
French Easel
A French easel is usually made of wood and includes an easel, canvas carrier and storage space. They fold up so that they can be easily transported. It can usually be set at different angles.
Studio Easel
A studio easel is a large easel that stands on the floor. It is usually used with large canvases and is ideal for oil and acrylic work. These easels are usually heavier and less portable but a studio easel is usually more stable than other easels.
